Hand-inked collagraph print
The ceremony of serving tea in China is performed with grace and precision. Taking time for tea in this way creates some reflective space in your day. The print features my porcelain gaiwan, but the ceremony can be performed with teapots too. There are different ceremonies for different types of tea and occasions, and it takes years of study to learn all the variations.
Space is an important element of this print; leaving paper clean is not an easy thing to achieve when handling individually-inked collagraph cups and placing them in perfect alignment. Inky fingers can ruin many a good print!
The graceful orchid has been painted afterwards by hand using Chinese brushes and paints. The technique requires a very steady hand and total focus – one false move and the whole print must be abandoned.
