In Chinese culture the bamboo represents many desirable traits and is known as “the gentleman”: it’s tall, straight stem symbolises honour and an upright character; its deep roots stand for resoluteness and resilience; the hollowness of the stem shows us that there is wisdom in emptiness – a reminder to empty our minds of prejudice and fear. The bamboo will bend but never break. In times of turbulence the bamboo motif gives us strength to withstand anything life throws at us!
